Factors affecting the intensive care stay of patients with spinal neural tube defects

AIM To evaluate the duration of hospitalization and factors that increase this in cases treated neonatal intensive care unit with diagnosis a spinal neural tube defect (NTD). MATERIAL AND METHODS The demographic characteristics, NTD type level, ventriculoperitoneal (V-P) shunt needs, accompanying deformity, antibiotherapy applied during treatment, stay periods 73 patients our clinic between July 2017 2020 were retrospectively evaluated. RESULTS was 7?109 (mean=23) days. Fifty-one (69.9%) had myeloschisis, 22 (30.1%) myelomeningocele (MMC) sac. A V-P to 24 (32.9%) hospitalization, additional given 32 (43.8%) cases. CONCLUSION In myeloschisis compared MMC marsupial cases, incidences ventricular dilatation, kyphotic/scoliotic spine pathology, requirement, longer hospital observed.
